STAAR Review Headquarters

STAAR Review Headquarters

On this page you will have access to all the information about the different topics that the 7th Grade STAAR exam is about. The link below to the Reporting Categories give you a description of the content that you will be tested over. You also have access to a formula chart. If you print it out, please be aware that the ruler may have changed sized because of different print settings, so it may not measure exactly like the official math chart will. I suggest using a separate ruler if you are attempting any of the problems that involve measurement.

You also have access to all of the questions about each topic that I have access to online. These practice problems should give you a better idea about what the test will look like. The keys will be provided as well, so please don't think these are assignments that need to be rushed through. They are examples of problems similar to what you will see, and should be broken down and analyzed in preparation for the STAAR. I will give more specific description of each RC in following posts.

Please message me through edmodo if you want to check some of your answers. I can provide you with the keys to these problems.

3-Dimensional Figures CCA Review

Here is the key for the CCA review. Don't just copy the answers, look at why the answers are the way they are. Do you know the various 3-D figures and their properties? Do you know how to tell the difference between a Prism and a Pyramid? Do you know how to use the correct formula for the appropriate shapes to find the Volume of a 3D solid? Do you know how to look at a drawing of a combination of cubes and draw the Top, Front, and Side views?

If you answered any of these questions NO, then you need to look back at some of the previous work you have done. Look at the notes that were posted earlier for the unit packet you took home over spring break. All the information you need is there. Look at the videos posted on the page to help you.

I will be picking up both the Stations packet and the Review Packets tomorrow. Make sure you do as much as you can, and study these things! Don't just think you understand it, and there's no way you can do better. Anything less than an A for you all should be unacceptable.

I will post more about the stations packet later this evening.

Adding and Subtracting Polynomials

Adding polynomials is nothing more than an expanded method of combining like terms. We need to first make sure that we arrange our two polynomials to show the appropriate pairs of like terms.

Remember 4x and 4 are not like terms, just like 4xand 4x are not like terms. Like terms have the same exponent on the variable. In order to add two polynomials, line up the like terms, then combine them. Anything that does not have a like term will not change, but will still be part of the polynomial that we will simplify for our answer.

Subtraction is just as easy as multiplication, because all we need to do is change all the signs of all parts of the polynomial we are subtracting to their opposites. 4x turns into -4x. +6 turns into -6. After you have re-written the second polynomial, ADD like normal.

Check out these other notes and videos to help you even more.

The FOIL Method - Multiplying Polynomials

The FOIL method is just a short acronym to help us memorize what is truly just an expanded usage of the distributive property.

Here are some notes and videos to help you out if you are having any trouble. The entire packet is due tomorrow, except for the 15 problems that you did not choose to work through on the addition and subtraction page.

Here's the link to the key. Check out khanacademy.com if you need any help or practice.

**correction - #2 is D!

And a hint to those of you who check this information: Brush up on your proportion work. Be able to answer a question similar to this: the area of one shape is 2/3 of the larger one. The area of the larger shape is 12. What is the area of the smaller shape?
